RESULTS Australia Steering Committee representative: Leila Stennett, Campaigns Director, RESULTS Australia A political advocate with a focus on child rights and refugees, Leila Stennett has over ten years’ experience in advocacy and political campaigning. Leila is the campaigns Director for Results Australia and Secretariat of the Australian TB Caucus which is a non-partisan parliamentary group which aims to raise the political and public profile of the TB. She has worked for a variety of organisations including World Animal Protection, Welcome to Australia, GetUp!, Uniting Justice, Amnesty International and ChilOut an organisation focussed on removing refugee children from mandatory detention in Australia. Leila’s passion for advocacy and child rights began in the refugee sector and for several years she was the leading expert and community spokesperson on child migration issues in Australia fronting the media regularly, lobbying politicians and working to keep the issue at the centre of the country’s consciousness. Leila has had extensive experience collaborating with a broad range of civil society stakeholders to develop regional solutions to migration, child detention, food insecurity and health. Leila has a Masters in International Law and International Relations from the University of New South Wales, Australia.
RESULTS Australia (RIA) is a non-profit advocacy organisation which generates the public and political will to end extreme poverty and hunger by focussing attention and action how Australian aid dollars are spent. For 30 years RESULTS has delivered effective advocacy that shines a light on access and inequality especially in the Asia Pacific Region focussing on issues such as Global Health, Education, Gender Inequality and Economic Opportunities. In recent years RESULTS have focussed much of their efforts on vaccination and treatment of diseases that are prevalent in our region including malaria, tuberculosis, polio and HIV ensuring these diseases remain a high priority for the Australian government.
RIA is a member of the ACTION partnership, a global partnership of advocacy organisations across five continents in both donor and high burden countries working to influence policy and mobilise resources to fight diseases of poverty and achieve equitable access to health. |
